In many ways, the 2016 MotoGP season has been Marc Marquez’s greatest campaign, the 23-year-old champion dominating a season complicated by important technical changes – a switch to unified electronics software and Michelin tyres.

Riders and engineers have had to go racing while adjusting to the new technical environment and Marquez’s extraordinary natural talent allowed him to ride around any issues he may have faced throughout the year.

With just one race remaining, he was the only rider to score points at each and every round until he wrapped up the title at Twin Ring Motegi, then unfortunately he crashed out of the Australian round. He came off in Malaysia as well, however he picked the bike back up and continued on his way eventually finishing 11th while running a similar pace to winner Andrea Dovizioso.

The Spaniard has a good record at Valencia: he won the 2012 Moto2 race (from the back of the grid) and the 2014 MotoGP race and he is planning on making it to the top step this year so that he can help Honda claim their 22nd constructors championship in the premier class.

‘Our target for the race is of course to try and finish on a high in front of our fans, possibly with a win or at least a podium,” he said.
