Red Bull Racing’s Jamie Whincup secured top spot in final practice for the Bathurst 1000 here at the Mount Panorama Circuit with a best overall time of 2:05:149, just .16 of a second faster than reigning supercar champion, Mark Winterbottom.
Chaz Mostert was a pleasing third in the Supercheap Auto entry ahead of young Scotty McLaughlin while Shane van Gisbergen rounded out the top five.
Predictions are that this afternoon’s qualifying session will produce some blistering lap breaking times and Frosty is hoping he is right up there with them….
“I think we’re going to have to be in the fours to get provisional pole today,” he said. “It’s moving around under brakes and it’s hard. The Chase, the last corner and turn one are difficult, but. I’m happy. We need to tidy up instability in the rear, if we can do that and not lose the strengths we have, we’ll be quicker..”
“What we’re looking for is a kilometre per hour more turn, that will be a tenth a second per corner probably and happy days. But it’s easier to ask for it than to find it, so we’ll see how we go.”
